2024 is going to be all about maximizing utilitarianism while aiming at functional aesthetics, yet leave you feeling cozy and cocooned, while at work or leisure. It is about how everything is different yet seamlessly completes a picture that makes the whole.

Workspaces and homes have become intermeshed and the search for handmade, eclectic, vintage is on a feverish high, giving every home its uniqueness. There is this change of palette where people are seeking a lot more character in the nooks and crannies of their spaces.

Whether you use Instagram or Pinterest for inspiration, there’s a lot to catch up with.

While there is no dearth of manuals on what will be the interior design trends for this year, here are some that our experts think will shine through.

Interior design trends to fall in love with (2024)

While we’ll keep updating this post with more trends as we identify preferences, here are the ones we’re watching (and working on) closely:

1. Texture over plain walls

Plain white walls or the mirrored finish ones will give way to a lot more texture and since Pantone color of the year is a peach fuzz, the color is going to slide into warmer hues, especially brown.

There is going to be a lot of peach and apricot and some off-setting with greens, purples, and blue. When we say brown, think warmer shades of the color, think caramel, think dark brown, sepia.

Brushed or hand-applied Roman clay or lime wash or even hand-tooled plaster – there is a lot that’s going up there by working around natural materials, not so much fabric as wood that adds dimension and depth.

2. Bringing back the old

AI-assisted spectacles are going to come down – bring back the old-school, thick switches and the satisfaction of switching the lights on and off.

The old tubs, as rustic and plain as you can get, without taps, lights, faucets, and other techno bling, will bring back the idea of romancing your bath time and going about planning it meticulously.

Earthy textured tiles like terracotta and the ochre-colored dream on the floor with a plain tub nestled in front of a window that overlooks the greens- luxury, refined, and served.

3. Earthy and grounding tones

Upholstery and rugs are going to be a lot about rust and deep golden wheat colors. Beige and brown and an 18th-century calmness – less vibrant, richer.

On that note, natural fibers and sourcing of materials are going to remain a talking point when it comes to deciding on what will go into doing up your spaces.

Sustainability is the new buzzword that will dictate choices. The neutral palette is going to let in a lot of jewel tones, too. Bring in some romanticism.

4. Furniture fluidity over straight lines

Furniture is about to get more curvaceous – straight lines are old news.

Embracing a departure from the conventional, the upcoming trend in furniture is set to usher in a delightful blend of sophistication and comfort.

There will be an influx of wooden pieces adorned with intricate details, promising to infuse a space with a touch of timeless charm.

The emphasis on curves introduces a dynamic and fluid aesthetic, making furniture pieces more chic.

5. Gleaming surfaces with metal renaissance

‘Hot Metals’ is a parallel trend that’s gaining market share.

Gleaming surfaces, the color of sinewy liquid mercury is for those who wish to side a little more with the eclectic. Chrome, steel, and aluminum are just as favored.

There is no writing off the metals, entirely, anytime soon. This kind of furniture is more durable and cost-worthy in office spaces that see a lot of footfall. They are as sturdy as wood but ask for less maintenance and upkeep.

6. Creating secondary spaces

Those little spaces that remained undefined are going to turn into additional pantries, wet bars, and buildable spaces for more storage.

As the distinction between home and office gets more and more blurred, spaces will be optimized to make sure that every inch is made use of and is rendered functional.

Who really minds a well-appointed bar or coffee station, which is right there, calling out to you as you move into your study.

Creating secondary spaces will trend, big time.

7. Livening up wall decor

Wall-mounted sculptures for livening up drab walls and giving them more depth to paying more attention to creating arches and accents, wall murals under a staircase or along the stairs – it’s time for the resurgence of the earthy, warm home feel.

Once again, things that look multidimensional will adorn homes. The bare, minimalist look will rest for a while.

8. Making it artisanal

Everything artisanal is in, a celebration of the skills of the human hands. From ceramic tiles to wooden furniture, to fluted glass, there is an increased demand for pieces that are unique in their irregularities.

From wall decor to rugs, flat finishes are out, and imperfect is the new perfect. People are moving towards antique, heirloom, one of a kind, pieces that make their own statement.

As people crave more and more exclusivity, demand for customization is peaking. Bring in more and more rare, different, even difficult to put together and make it imperfectly perfect.

9. Lighting it up

A home is defined by the play of lights and the good thing is that light tuning is something that is well within the reach of everyone – so, when it’s gloomy outside, you can make your interiors look nice and warm by increasing or downplaying the tone of your smart lights.

Yes, a remote may get added and an application on your smartphone too but the magical feeling that it will bring to your spaces as you do the sorcery of luminescence, well, that’d be unmatched.

10. Building tone on tones

While color play is a lot about clever maneuvers, there is no underplaying the impact of tone on tone.

Browns on browns, more pastels and peaches all thrown in together as wall mounts, surface displays – the art of putting things together and playing with the vibrancy of colors is back in fashion and we’re loving it!

11. Bringing in alternative materials

As sustainability becomes more and more of a global movement, materials such as cardboard and leather cutouts from factories may well be seen plastered onto the walls or modeled into modern furniture.

Recycled or upcycled things will find niche’ market because the cost of remodeling into things of utility is staggering, almost without an exception.

12. Going ornate (a bit)

Homes are set to undergo a fascinating transformation marked by the infusion of captivating design elements.

Glassy, beaded boards, square and diamond-shaped, moody palettes with splashes of color and a mix of elements – homes will have mood corners. This trend embraces moody palettes, introducing an atmospheric and emotive quality to interior design.

What interior design trends are you embracing?

Some trends may or may not sit well as they are pretty relative but for those who like to move with the times, a little tweak here and there, will take care of being there and still standing out.

Like with everything else, finding the right interior design style requires patience, an eye for detail and budgeting.

That’s why it’s always advisable to rope in experts who work around your vision and make it come true.
